Feline Instincts

Cats don’t go in for much deep thought, most of their actions are controlled by pre-programmed instructions hard-wired into their brains called instincts.

These instincts tell it how to be a cat. Some of the things that cats do, such as kill birds and other small animals, may seem cruel to us, especially if the cat is already well fed. However, you must remember that the instinct to hunt is something that all cats have, from lions and tigers, roaming the Savannah, to the domestic pussy cat, you would have as a pet, have those same instincts, it’s not her fault, she was just made like that.

Cats’ instincts can be put into two distinct categories (no pun intended)

Namely the instinct to hunt and catch prey, and the instinct to gain and hold on to a territory.

In addition to these two, cats also have the instinct to mate.  An un neutered male, or intact tom, will seek out queens (female cats) on heat to mate with.  This can be greatly reduced by neutering male cats and spaying females
